Most SEO masters already knew that nofollow attributes are used in their links especially to fight spam comments in their blogs. This nofollow attribute will make the outbound links have no weight at all at least to Google. Google won’t ignore the existence of the links, but also won’t give any weight to the destination pages.

So, what the hidden agenda behind the idea to give nofollow attribute to the internal links? The answer is so simple, because not all internal pages are so critical in the point of view of SEO. All SEO efforts are always based on specific keywords and we can also found that many pages in our sites that not inline nor correlated to these keywords.

What kind of pages? Many pages ranging from links to administration area, links to any policy or term of use pages, and maybe any links to not important pages. You should check back your keyword list and look deeper in your sites link structure.

Although this idea still new and no one report of their result after applying this idea, but still I dare to try it because of the whole idea is make sense.

This is the first step in applying the nofollow attribute to this site (design.ebali.web.id), and I only did that on very not critical parts of these site. Maybe after I see some good results, I will continue to apply it on another page element of this site.

Here is the list what I did to this site:

• In each blog post and feed links I put two links to privacy policy and disclosure policy pages, which is blog post. These pages are most less important pages compared to my SEO goals for this site so I apply it in the first place.
• Archives widget.
  This widget only list blog post that already got full follow link from the main page of blog or from tags pages, so it’s not necessary to add more weight to the archives pages.
• Tags widget.
  This widget is collection of most clicked tags from the blog post. I consider this widget is less important because the tags words already got full follow link from each blog post.
• Recent post widget.
  I apply the nofollow attribute only to the category link because each related category already got full follow from each blog post.

The main idea for the first application of nofollow attribute to design.ebali.web.id is to reduce the stress of the main pages from giving too many full follow links to unnecessary pages. So, the full follow link number in main pages will be decreased and of course will give more power to full follow link left. By giving this power, I hope I can increase my SERP of some short tail keyword.

Again this is an experiment, so let’s see what will happened when Google recrawl my pages. Hope that main SEO target of this site will achieved easily. If you agree with this idea you can do it to your sites, but it’s your own decision and risk. Do some more deep study when you have little knowledge on SEO. Have fun with the experiment!
